Not only are jigs big fish baits but they are one of if not the most versatile lures on the market. A jig can be fished from one foot deep to over 60 feet. There are many different head designs to choose, one will fit any fishing condition that comes up. Most people will only use a jig for fishing deep water structure; an important key to success with jigs is fishing them everywhere!
Often times I will swim a jig along dock pilings, weed lines, and other cover, I use my jigs the same way I would use spinner baits. Jigs can also be ripped off the bottom to create a reaction strike, let the jig rest on or near the structure you are fishing and give the rod a sharp snap upwards similar to setting the hook and let it fall back to the bottom. Next time you are out fun fishing pick up a jig and your imagination run wild, you may be surprised what techniques you will come up with!
