Camp Far West report from Bob Pietruszka 8/17/2017

August 21, 2017 by Ron Howe

I had the unique opportunity to combine a fun day of fishing on one of my favorite lakes and at the same time share my knowledge of how and where to catch bass at Camp Far West with Nick and Steve Smith of Informative Fisherman and  Mark Lassagne of Bass Angler Magazine. They chose Camp Far to shoot a “First time on a new lake” video.  They contacted RBBass to find any help our group could provide and Bob Tyler and I were suggested.  Bob and I passed along where we thought the fish should be this time of year and the best baits to use to help them.  My long time friend and fishing partner David Gretler and I joined them on the lake. Water temp was 80+ degrees and visibility at about 3 to 3 ½ FT. We caught the majority of our fish on jigs, lead heads with worms and spoons. David used a 3/8oz brown jig with a green pumpkin trailer and I used a 1/4oz football jig with a 5” Yamamoto DT Hula grub in cinnamon black flake. I used a 1/8oz ball head with a 3” Berkley Gulp minnow smelt color. My spoon was a 1/2oz Bass Pro Shops Jiggy Twitch It in a shad color. We caught the bulk of our fish on the main body near the dam both off points and the backs of coves. We also caught a few fish up the Bear River arm but most of those fish were smaller.

Thanks for checking in, Bob Pietruszka
