Lake McClure fishing report by Ryan Cook

September 20, 2018 by Randy Walker

Friday Aug 31st
On the water at 4:30pm
Off the water at 7:45pm
Water temp 82
Air temp 95
Water clarity 6’+
I got off work early so my wife and I called up a couple of friends of ours and decided to head to Lake McClure for a few hours. The jig bite has been good, but being stubborn I picked up a Super Spook to start off the evening with a little Topwater, and I’m glad I did, because about four or five casts in I hooked into a TANK going 9 lbs. 4 oz.  She jumped several times and fought really hard, so much fun to get those big girls on Topwater!  After the big one I caught a few other decent sized fish up to about 3 pounds on the spook, but most of our better fish came on the jig. We ended the few hours that we finished with probably 15 fish, best five going 21 lbs.  The fish are really scattered and hard to pattern, but if you stay in 10-30’ of water with a jig in your hand, ur gonna come across some good ones.  Right now is the time of year you aren’t gonna get a lot of Topwater bites, but definitely have a shot at a giant, tight lines!
