We launched out of Clear Lake Oaks on Sunday right at day break figured we would try and get on a top water bite first thing. We started out throwing walking baits and whopper ploppers with no bites we picked up a squarebill managed to catch 2 small fish within 10 casts but that was short lived.
We decided to move out a little deeper and decided to pick up a Canopy Grenades football jig and started catching a lot of solid 2.5-3.5lbs. Stayed fishing down deep and started throwing some deep diving crank baits such as a Strike King 6XD and a Berkley Dredger was able to locate a school of fish down in about 16ft unfortunately nothing over the 3lb ranger but a bunch between 1-2lb. Started throwing jigs at the same school of fish and was still not able to catch any more size.
When the sun came out mid morning we decided to try shallow again and started flipping the deeper grass and tulles that we could find. We managed to catch a handful of fish on the first stretch we came up on. Decided to run some other known stretches and managed 2 over 4lbs and then a solid 5.26lbs to top our bag off.
