FLW College Bass Fishing with National Guard

March 12, 2012 by Ron Howe

With the rise of youth involvement within the bass fishing community, I would like to inform our upcoming youth anglers about future opportunities with National Guard College Fishing.

National Guard FLW College Fishing is a tournament series open to full-time, undergraduate, college students attending a four-year college or university. All one needs to do once they are at their desired college, is join the school’s bass/fishing club (If one is not yet present, your school will help you form one!), and then register for tournaments. It is a great opportunity and privilege for college anglers who are already focused on pursuing tournament fishing after college.

There are many reasons why this is a great, fun, and beneficial opportunity. For starters, National Guard and FLW understand us college student are on a budget, and to help with this they have set up this series to have no entry fee, provide bass boats at each tournament, and provide each person with a travel allowance. On top of this, a top five finish at a College Fishing event will allow you to win money to help support your club, as well as an opportunity to win a fully rigged Ranger bass boat. Other benefits include possible media coverage, networking and building new friendships within the tournament bass fishing community, and sponsorship opportunities. Sponsorships is one of the biggest benefits, working with companies at a young age is a great way to learn how the business side of the sport works, and helps build your resume. This will be important for when the time comes to fish at a higher tournament level, once you finish college.

With College fishing covering five regions across the nation (Southern, Northern, Southeastern, Central, and Western), holding four qualifying events in each region, a Regional Championship, National Championship and the winning team of the National Championship advances to the FLW Cup, along with the benefits, It is a great experience and opportunity that any college student who loves to bass fish just cant pass up.
