Alligator Chain of Lakes Fishing Report

April 14, 2014 by Ron Howe

This Weekend me and good friend of mine Jacob Ippolito fished a charity event on the crystal clear alligator chain. We launched out of lake front inn in alligator lake and immediately headed to boat docks. We were greeted there by four other anglers in the tournament. I tied on a Arkansas Shiner Zoom Fluke and slowly worked in on the surface fishing the edges of Kissimmee grass around the docks. While Jacob fished a watermelon candy senko weightless in front of docks. We quickly put 5 fish in the well with in the first hour. The other 4 boats they weren’t catching anything. Then Jacob changed his tactic up a little bit and skipped a senko under a dock. Then Boom!! he got slammed down and ended up losing a fish that went 5+. After that we decided to move down the dock line fishing the same tactics. And ended up culling a few out and losing a few big ones. Around 10 oclock we culled out a few times and decided to run to the south where I broke off on a monster that exploded on the fluke on a pause. By 11 we ran up to coon and decided the water was to black and to go fish alligator lake again where it was CLEAR. This lake really stood out to me as it was deep 36ft in the middle and bottom was completely visible which is unusual to the mud stained waters Im used to In florida. Around 12oclock the wind really picked up and the bite stopped so we went back to our morning spot where I threw a Logic Lures Plastix and ended up culling another one out. We fished there to 1:45 and lost a 7lbs bass and then headed for weigh in. At weigh in we sat in first for a while only to get beat by very little. Over all we placed 5th place and were very blessed to have placed and be one of the very few boat to come back with a 5fish limit. The lake over all has an abundance of bass we caught well over 30 fish. it just lacks big fish and bait I didn’t see a school of bait all day. but im defiantly making a return trip soon and will be fishing this tournament next year for sure.
