The California Delta Fishing has been up and down for most.
The cooler than usual summer temperatures along with constant high winds and dirty water has made the fish tougher to locate. With this in mind when you find them they will be stacked and they will be good sized fish! Water temps should be in the 80’s this time of year ,but they are mostly around 72-74deg.
There has been a consistant top water bite going for a month for us, we have been using buzzbaits to locate fish and Frogs to catch them. The key has been isolated mats in areas protected from the North West Winds. This pattern has been working from Stockton to The upper Mokulmne river area.
Dan Wells and Ron Howe used this pattern to take 10th in the Rangers only tournament with only 3 fish! This was followed up by Dan and Ron winning the snag proof open! Dan followed this up again by winning Stockton Bass the following weekend after the frog tournament. Its hard work to find the fish, but they are there and ready to eat when you do find them! The key factors are deep water on low tide and hightide on or near flats combined with sparse mats or standing grasses.
