Lake Berryessa fishing report
March 3rd – 5th FPT TOC
It was a rough day on Lake Berryessa. The weather conditions were out of hand. We
were battling 20 mile per hour winds, heavy rain, and 49 degree water temperatures. I was able
to tag along with my Dad (Danny Cross) on day 1 of his tournament and use this as a pre-fish
opportunity for my tournament the next day. We struggled to find fish, in fact we didn’t get our
first bite until 1:30 but we decided to visit one of our old spots and it payed off. We were able to
find a big school of fish and fish that were willing to eat. My dad got a 15 pound bag of fish in 45
minutes and I was able to catch a few quality fish too.
On day 2 we made the decision to take the treacherous boat ride all the way up north on
the main body to the spot we found fish, It was a cold, wet, and windy ride. We spent the day
thoroughly fishing that same spot from day one. We threw A-rigs, dropshots, jigs, neds, and
even tossed around some swimbaits but the fish were stuck on the A-rig and the good ole
dropshot. By the end of the freezing cold day I came into weigh in with a 13.24 pound bag, a
bag big enough to win the TOC.
If venturing out my tips would be to cover water and find fish, once biting fish are located
fish very slow and deep.
