Took my buddy David Gretler out to Camp Far West for his birthday. We launched about 8 a.m. with water temp around 66 degs at the ramp. Made a run up the north fork and started searching for bedding bass. The water was crystal clear and temps around 66-67 in the back of the coves and pockets. We only saw small bucks holding near prime bedding areas and saw no actual clean nests or females. The little guys jumped on anything tossed near where they were hanging. We made a run back out to the main body toward the river arm and started fishing the backs of coves looking for beds but the wind picked-up and made it tough to sight fish. I was throwing a shad colored rip bait as we burned bank and David started tossing a jig. After about a half hour with no fish, we moved out to about 12 to14 ft in the coves and started tossing jigs and drop shots. Fish on! We started catching numbers of fish schooled up just out in front of the spawning coves. No big females, but enough fish to keep us happy. We spent the rest of the day moving around the lake focusing on the outsides of coves at 15 ft . Plenty of 1 1/2 to 2 lb spots but we never caught a Largemouth or big spot. The lake is at full capacity and just touching the spillway. With the weather predicted to continue warming up I’m sure those fish will be moving up.
