Had a great day at Camp Far West with my buddy David Gretler. It’s still possible to launch a full size boat on the old service road next to the ramp but there is no dock so you have to load and unload off the bank. The water temp was a surprising 67 at launch and the water was stained with about 2ft of visibility. Tried some topwater at first but nothing going. Switched to a crankbait and had a few fish smack it but not commit. Pulled out a pole that had a Keitech 4.8in Swing Impact Fat rigged on a football head jig. I had good success on this bait last trip there and the fish still wanted it. Slow rolling it along the bottom bumping off the rocks triggered the bites. David had even better results using a stand-up jig head with a twin tail spider grub.
We caught the majority of our fish all around the main body in sight of the dam. As the sun set I ran up river to fish a River 2 Sea Whopper Plopper in the shade and caught quite a few nice fish up there. If your looking for some fun fishing with numbers of fish versus bigger sized fish, this is a good bet.
