Camp Far West Fishing Report
Went fishing today with Bob Pietruska and Austin Wilson. We launched from the North ramp at seven o’clock today in fifty seven degree water temps and a slight stain. It didn’t take Austin long to start lighting -em up,He had the first fish pinned on a jig and in the boat before I could get parked and back to the ramp. Not wanting to miss out on what we heard was a good morning bite we left the small fish at the ramp and headed across the lake to the main point by the South shore ramp. The very first cast today with a Huddleston swim bait Austin hooks a nice three pound Spotted Bass that I follow up with a two ponder on a shaky head.
We continued to bounce from point to point picking up fish here and there on brown jigs. After the sun was up and the water temp got to fifty degrees we decided to run up the river arm and try the main points. This is where things got good. I switched to a drop-shot and landed a nice four pounder right off the bat. We caught several fish on the drop-shot and jigs at each point.Austin made sure to make a couple cast at each point with the Huddleston before moving onto the next and this turned out to be the best call of the day as he was able to hook a real nice five pound Spotty!
All in all we caught about thirty fish. The drop-shot caught the most rigged with a morning dawn PRO WORM,the brown jig was second and the Hud landed the Monster of the day. I did throw the crank bait and A-rig as well but neither got bit. Camp Far West has long been known as a small fish numbers lake but it looks like the cookie cutters have grown up and aren’t afraid to play.So on your next trip to CFW don’t hesitate to tie on that swim bait and GO BIG.
Good Luck Bob Tyler
