Today I took part in my first Cast for kid’s event as a volunteer boater, and I have to say I was really impressed with the entire program from start to finish. Everyone involved really gave it their all and you could see the care in their eyes. The fishing took a back seat today, even though several kid’s caught some nice bass. The day was mostly about smiles, hugs, and having fun. Each kid received a nice Zebco rod and reel combo, Plano tackle box with some starter gear, shirt, and nice hat. Each angler was paired up with a kid and set off for a two hour fishing trip. It was really windy, but never the less these kids hung in there and several nice bass found themselves back at the dock posing for pictures. To me there’s no greater joy than to watch a child reel in a fish. It was really heart warming to see them with their catch. Most of the fish were caught on Texas rigged worms, crank baits, top water poppers, and drop shots. Most programs would probably call it a day at this point but not Cast for Kids. From here it was off to the barbeque and awards ceremony. We all had our fill and each kid was given a plaque with their picture posing along side their boat captain. It is hard for me to put into words how much I truly enjoyed myself today. If you’re looking for a place to share your love of fishing and really do some good, Cast for Kids is that place. Thank you for letting me be part of something this wonderful.
