Clear Lake Fishing Report

December 1, 2014 by Ron Howe

Clear Lake Map

I always enjoy Thanksgiving.  I get to come home, stuff my self full with food, see the family and friends and more importantly fish my home waters again! Decided to fish Clear Lake with my father in hopes of a great late fall bite. First arriving at the Oaks launch ramp I looked to the sky and knew it was going to be a wet one. Boy was I right, I think the only time it didn’t rain was between 10-11am! We started the day throwing LV500s in ghost minnow and strike king kvd 1.5s in sexy shad along Highway 20 in the rattlesnake arm. After a couple of hours with no bites I looked down to my graph and noticed shad balls and active feeding fish in 20-30 feet of water.

Made the decision to move deep and we kept with that pattern the rest of the day. Fishing a Strike King 10XD on a Dobyns 805 RRMCB and a DD22 on a Dobyns 765 Glass on Clear Lakes rocky shore line midlake rewarded us with a few chunky Clear Lake bass. By the end of the day water temps were around 58 degrees and all of our fish came between 14-17 feet of water.

The key to getting these stubborn fish to bite was getting the boat up against the rocky shoreline and paralleling the structure so that the cranks deflected off of the structure for the maximum time possible. With the amount of time your bait is on the bottom make sure to check the first 1-3 feet of your line for nicks and frays and retie OFTEN!!! Good luck out there and make sure to check out Hi’s Tackle Box Shop for any of your tackle needs!
