Clear lake fishing report April 19th
Weather partly cloudy 47-62deg
Water temp 56-62deg water clear to stained
Arrived at the lake late and launched in the north end of the lake. Started throwing large swimbaits off shore in areas leading to spawning coves and pockets. I did not get any follows or taps. Moved to the bank and started flipping DM Custom baits trick sticks on my new Abu Garcia Veritas rod 7ft medium action. Quickly located bass close to cover. You have to cover alot of water and you will find 1-4 fish on a single small section of bank while other banks hold nothing. Keep a close eye on your line as the fish are grabbing the bait and swimming off with it. I recomend using 20lb Berkley 100% flourocarbon line in and around the vegitation. This will help you detect light bites , but give you heavy enough line to horse the fish out of the cover while staying stealth with Flourocarbon line. I moved around from cove to cove or pocket to pocket covering water quickly , but fishing slowly. I would catch 1 -4 fish per area and move on. Fish were ranging from 3-6lbs with the average fish being over 4.25lbs. Later in the day I saw some females cruising near spawning areas. I would back the boat off and throw suspending swimbaits at these fish. I was able to get a few fish to smash the bait they were all in the 5-6lb range. The lake is high and full but starting to fall. Look for the frog bite to bust wide open real soon!
