Deep Spotted Bass Tactics

February 14, 2010 by Ron Howe

Each time we are on the water fishing for Spotted Bass we are driving right over the fish and beginĀ casting to the bank to get bit. Start trying new things when your on the water. I see fish down there at 75 feet and dont want to fish that deep. Nobody wants to fish this deep, but you have to learn to try it. In the winter of 2009 I put this to the test. I positioned my boat in 100 feet of water. I was using 6 lb flourocarbon line with a 3/8 oz Berserk Baits shakey head and a Berserk baits Brawler creature baitĀ in green pumkin. I would cast to 40 feet of water and just barely lift my tip up and drag the bait slowly to 75feet deep. My line would angle left or right as the fish would grab it and run away with it. I was catching better than average size Spotted Bass in doing so. I have since used this tactic more often and see the other boats going bye thinking its over 100 feet deep there what is he doing? Im catching fish that few are even fishing for!
