Delta Bass Fishing Reports October 2010
Bass Fishing on the Ca Delta is tough right now for some and great for others. After several days on the water here is what I found. Many quality fish can be caught right now. Small bass are biting very well right now for those who just want to catch fish. Senkos on rock walls with current will provide consistant action all day long with fish up to 6lbs. Crank baits in shad or craw colors will work will on the outside of weed flats and on rock walls with tules and weeds mixed in and also caught fish up to 5lbs “current must be near bye”. The buzz bait bite is tough right now as most of the fish are just slapping at the bait and not eating it. This was the case untill I tossed a Persuader inline Buzz Bait in black with a Daichii bleeding bait trailer hook on it over the top of a grass bed on high tide near a point and BAM a 7lber inhaled it! Many Buzz bait fish are just slurping the bait down really soft and it is easy to miss these bites. Make sure to be using a softer tipped rod with some back bone and 15-17lb monofilament line the let the bass inhale the bait. Pay close attention the the direction you are pulling the buzz bait past the bass and keep it coming down hill with the same direction as the current to increase hook up rate. PUNCHING will yeild the overall biggest bag of fish if you find the right junk to punch into. I was punching with a Punch skirt in bluegill colors with a Berserk Baits GP Candy Brawler in the 3.5 size. It is very small areas that some are finding that have punch fish of better quality.
Good Luck
