Fishing Deep for Spotted Bass by Ron Howe
Fishing deeper than most for Spotted bass will yield great results all year. Many of us anglers are idling our boats up to our favorite point to fish, in doing so we start in super deep water say 100 feet deep and as we approach 75 feet we see tons of fish down there much deeper than we want to try to fish. Face it 75feet of water is not where any of us want to be. What this means is you have a group of fish who don’t see many baits from very many anglers. These deep spotted bass will eat and you may be surprised at the quality you catch this deep. Try using a Berserk Baits 3/8 oz brown Shaky Head with a 3.5″ Berserk Baits Baby Brawler in Cinnamon Purple. Do this on ultra light spinning tackle with 6lb flourocarbon line. Do not cast your lure up to the bank! Position your boat in 100 feet of water and cast to 40 feet of water pretending that’s where the bank is. Be patient let the bait settle and just lift your tip upward 2″ and keep your line tight. This will crawl your bait down to that 75 foot zone really slow! Most time you wont feel a bite this deep, but the bass will swim away with your bait so keep an eye on your line angle and if its going sideways it’s Fish on Baby! Set the hook and slowly fight the fish up to the boat.
