As I welcome in the New Year, I also welcome a new season of FLW’s National Guard College Fishing. In just a couple weeks our 2012 season begins on Lake Shasta with the first of four Western Regional Qualifying tournaments. Here, my teammate, Jen Edgar and I will compete to win $10,000 for our club and a shot at Regional Championships. This is just one of many great aspects National Guard and FLW bring to the table for college bass fishing. Understanding that we are college students, FLW and National Guard help cover our travel expenses, provide us with boats for each tournament, and give us the opportunity to compete for money to be used to help grow our clubs. But they do not stop there, there are opportunities for TV exposure in the championship tournaments, and the National Champion team at the end of the season qualifies for the FLW Cup. These are all big things in helping shape the future of professional bass fishing, as this gives us all the experiences we need for those of us who want to pursue this as a lifestyle once we graduate. I am very grateful for College Fishing and I have seen how it has helped me grow not only into a stronger angler, but it has also helped me gain a lot of knowledge of the business savvy side of things that come along with tournament fishing. I highly suggest any college bound bass angler to join or form a club at their school and get involved with this great experience that FLW and National Guard provide for us.
