What’s up everyone. I had the opportunity to fish the FLW Western, CA Delta Event this past weekend. I fished it as a Co-Angler and got on the water on Wednesday to pre-fish with my buddy Chris Gooselar who was competing on the Pro side. We found areas that were holding a wealth of fish. We established a reaction bite pattern and then towards the afternoon began the flip mode. Things were looking good as we were on a lot of fish. Either way we had a good time prefishing. Thanks for taking me out Chris. During the pre event meeting I found out I was paired up with Mark Daniels Jr…the circuit breaker guy! I was pretty stoked to be able to get on the water on the first day with the guy that won this event last year.
Day 1 begins….we make a long run where Mark is boating fish…top water, reaction bite and flipping. The guy is a machine. It was a great experience fishing with Mark. He gave me plenty of water and was very courteous. My bites were all reaction and flipping bites. I weighed in 8.06 that day with no biguns for me. Second day I was paired up with Ron Johnson a pro out of Arizona. Ron was a great guy and shared the water also. His techniques varied from top water to dropshottin to flippin plastics. He had found some water that was holding a lot of fish. He had no problem squaring up a limit quickly. I picked up 4 keepers through the day with a 5lbr. I lost a nice fish that would of been my limit…feelings were hurt at this time!! With 45 minutes left I caught my fifth fish. As I went to put him in the live well, it slipped out of my hand and onto the deck and back into the Delta…..rookie move.
In any case I weighed in 11.06 on the second day with 4 fish. Should coulda woulda had that last fish I may of been in check range. Finished 51 out of 127 places. I had great tourney, learned a lot from my pros and definitely was a great experience. Mark Daniels Jr., Ron Johnson and Chris Gooselar were all a class act! Thanks again! Bring on Clearlake…I can’t wait.
