Folsom Lake Fishing report and Future Pro Tour story

April 23, 2012 by Ron Howe

Saturday I fished the Future Pro Tour tournment at Folsom Lake with my friend Jeff Wright. We blasted off from Granite Bay ramp at a little before seven o’clock with water temp’s ranging from sixty to sixty six degree’s and slightly stained water. We were boat twenty six and made a very short run to the first cove to the left past the swimming area to the North. The day before we found an eight plus pound female followed by a four pound male looking to make a bed, and several four pound plus roamer’s,but to our dismay over night the clear water had become very dirty thus throwing the option of sight fishing out the door. However knowing the general area the pair was relating too we picked up our Senko’s ,one rigged wacky style and the other on a shaky head both in watermelon candy and began fan casting to the area.It was’nt five minites later and Jeff had the four pound male in the boat. Our plan was to move very quickly to the back of the cove and try to catch the roamer’s.That’s when the fellow competetor’s started to show up.The first team was very cool and took the oppsite side of the cove not going past us and started to fish. The second team  however blasted into the cove on pad right between the two boat’s already in the area and ran right to the back of the cove. This isn’t breaking any written rules as they mantained a fifty foot distance but it is not good edicut. So needless to say after a quick lesson in fishing edicut they decided to fish elsewere.but now it didn’t matter the damage had been done and all the fish were spooked. We however continuied to fan cast the area and flip the tree’s with a black and blue jig only to produce several short’s.Relizing this wasn’t going to be a winning formula we packed up and headed to the long rock wall to the left before you enter the south fork,we were catching nice quilty fish in this area during our pre-fish time.It wasn’t thirty minites later Jeff had caught our limit of fish on the wacky rigged Senko while I was busy throwing the A-rig from the back of the boat. Now having our limit and mentally able to slow down we decided to head back to the cove we started in thinking it had a chance to rest, but opon our return it looked like Disney Land.boat’s every where, swimmer’s and the bank surrounded by shore anglers. Not the setteled down we had in mind. So with our hope’s of the eight pound female now dashed we headed back to the wall in hopes the bigger fish would move up later. We were able to cull two of the earlier fish ending up with a grand total of eleven pounds. Results should be posted by Monday and can be viewed at www.futureprotour.net. All in all it was a real fun day,Vince Harris put’s on a pretty good show. The big bass have made there move so now is the time to get out there and catch that bass of a lifetime.

Good Luck. Bob Tyler
