Future Pro Tour Heads to Folsom Lake

April 15, 2014 by Ron Howe

GRANITE BAY, Ca. – While it is true that the Coors Light Future Pro Tour kicked off this year’s season opener on March 29th, at Lake Berryessa, it is without question that the 2nd event of the year traditionally held at Folsom Lake in April, is thought of by most Future Pro Tour anglers as the real “Opening Day” for the tour.

Why you may ask?

Easy…Ask any Folsom Lake guru such as pro angler Johnny Maes, Dean McDaniel, Russ Graves, or Corey Fenske, and they will quickly tell you that spring time fishing on Folsom Lake – especially in mid April can produce some of the biggest bags of bass you will see all year, in ANY tournament, on ANY body of water.

So as FPT anglers prepare for this weekend’s exciting event dubbed “The Capitol City Showdown” – presented by Lucky Craft, the excitement and anticipation that Folsom Lake’s enormous population of big females will have moved up from the depths and into coves looking for or sitting on spawning beds, is enough to excite even the most stoic of anglers.

And with weekend temperatures predicted to be in the low 80’s with a FULL MOON just days prior to the event..it is for sure that someone will bring a double-digit bass – perhaps even a lake record, to the scales come weigh-in time.

But a lot of anglers will not put all of their eggs into the “bed fish” basket.

For at stake, and much more important than catching a single big fish, is for anglers to place high enough in the points standings to help ensure that they have a chance at a berth in the prestigious and exclusive 2014 Coors Light Future Pro Tour Championship event to again be held the first week of March on Clear Lake in 2015.

For at this time of year, jerk baits and crank baits can be the ticket to placing high – or even winning this event, and when it comes to rip baits, there are none better than Lucky Craft.

The Lucky Craft SP128 jerk bait, as well as the LV series have contributed greatly to the success of many champion-class anglers including the west’s own Bassmaster Classic Champion and 2009 AOY winner Skeet Reese, as well as the west’s all-time money winner Gary Dobyns, both of which have scored countless victories on Folsom Lake using Lucky Craft’s line of premium hard baits.

“In the springtime, there is no bait more effective that the SP128 Pointer, noted Gary. And if you work it properly, and in the right areas, you can absolutely destroy them on Folsom Lake at this time of year”.

And just for this event, any participating angler showing proof of purchase within the last month for any Lucky Craft product, at any Lucky Craft dealer, will be entered in to a drawing for a Chevron gas card!…so save your Lucky Craft purchase receipts!

Pre-registration – “How To” seminars at C&C Marine

The evening before the event (April 18th) at C&C Marine in Citrus Heights, the FPT will host an OPTIONAL pre-registration seminar, from 4-6pm, where you can get tips from top pros – who fish Folsom Lake, PLUS get signed up for the event.

Hertz Equipment Rental joins FPT’s group of premier sponsors

Future Pro Tour Tournament Trails is pleased to announce that Hertz Equipment Rental Sacramento has joined its group of premium partnering sponsors, and to celebrate this partnership Hertz Equipment Rental will host a FREE Tri-Tip, hamburger lunch with drinks, for all participating anglers and for those attending Saturday’s weigh-in.

Hertz Equipment Rentals has locations in areas throughout northern California, and stands ready to serve the needs of FPT anglers, including those that are trade contractors, “Do it Yourself” enthusiasts, and anyone that has rental needs for big projects.

Don’t forget…on the morning of the event (April 19th) from 4am -7am, we will take signups at Folsom Lake’s Granite Bay launch ramp, where limited membership fees of just $5 per angler will be available for those that can only fish this event or just want to “try out” a Future Pro Tour event.

So get your heavy duty and light gear ready as the Coors Light Future Pro Tour presents the “Capitol City Showdown” !

See you there!
