Lake Amador fishing report

April 8, 2012 by Ron Howe

Water temp 60 deg

Water stained

Weather partly cloudy 65 deg high

The lake is full and primed for a good year of bass fishing.  Flooded willow trees and fallen timber are plentifull everywhere around the lake. I had a half day to fish Amador the once Fanbasstic Lake, Now a trout farm! This is a good thing as the lake is fully stocked with trophy trout or as I call them Bass Popcorn! These trout give us a chance at a true Giant Bass each trip out.  The water being stained changed the swimbait bait mentality I had hoped for. With a half day to fish i had to quickly adapt to the conditions. The stained water made it tough to bed fish and the lake came up 5 ft in one week so most of the better bed fish are deeper than the dingy water allows you to see. I did find some male bass to 2.5lbs on beds in every cove I had time to fish. I saw a few fish to 4-5lbs near beds , but very spooky with all the Easter weekend Pressure . I pulled out of the coves and focussed on flat points in the arms of the lake, this proved to be a good choice and I got on a solid jig bite with fish from 2-7 lbs. The key was to focus on 7-8ft of water.  There are many people walking the lake bed fishing so focus on areas only boats can access for your best sucess!

Good Luck

Ron Howe
