Lake Berryessa Fishing report

January 20, 2013 by Ron Howe

Water Temp 50-51 deg

Water stained

What started off as a cold clear morning, turned into a blue bird sky day with temps around 60deg. The lake is full and rising.   Ron Howe and Steve Adams from BHQ got together to go have some fun on the water.  We started off fishing shallow in the morning with rip baits and had no luck. We bounced around from point to point all day fishing from  18-30ft deep for our best success. 1/8oz Shakey head worms in natural colors worked well and we had success with 1/2 oz. Freedom tackles Hybrid Rouge jig heads tipped with Berkley Havoc Duece trailers , move the bait super slow and watch your line as the fish will swim away with your bait.  When it warmed up we fished shallow and tried the new IMA Pinjack 200 crankbait in craw pattern and the Smallmouth Bass loved it. You have to cover some water , but there is reaction fish to be caught. By he end of the day we had caught Smallmouth,Largemoth and Spotted Bass. Lake Berryessa is in good shape expect good fishing here in 2013.

A cold and clear start at Lake Berryessa.

IMA’s new Pinjack 200 crankbait.

Smallmouth Bass love the Ima Pinjack 200!

Spotted Bass caught on Freedom tackles Rogue Jig Head.

Steve Adams from BHQ and a nice Smallmouth Bass.

Ron Howe with a nice Largemouth Bass from Lake Berryessa.
