Lake Don Pedro Fishing Report

May 19, 2014 by Ron Howe

Don Pedro Reservoir Map

Water Temps 67-76 deg

Water clear to Stained

Weather hot then incoming front.

Friday we headed to the lake to practice for the Saturday BBT event. We started at the bottom of the lake fishing in and around wood. We caught a few small fish on plastics. The fish not commit to top water baits. We then moved up the lake fishing every flat point we could find. We started to get a few good Spook bites. We continued this pattern up the lake. We ran all the way to the incoming water at the top of the lake. We caught a few fish up there, but these fish were super weary. We then went to Mocassin creek. We caught fish from the mouth to the creek. Jigs,Senkos and Spinner baits all got bites. Overall Fishing was tough. On Saturday I was able to get a second big bite on topwater on this trip. This one went 9.39 lbs. I had hoped the Spook bite would get better like day 1, but the slight cold front turned off the topwater bite. We started to drop shot and texas rig the trees. This got us several bites , but no big ones. We tossed swim baits in the wind, but did not get any bites. Overall the fishing is tough, but big ones can be found in schools you just need to cover alot of water.

Tips-

Cooling weather fish Swimbaits and dropshots

Warming weather go topwater!
