Lake New Melones fishing report

April 27, 2011 by Ron Howe

First Place in the Angler’s Choice Pro-team Bass Tournament over the weekend came in with a whopping total weight for five fish of 43.19 pounds!  Jason Remmers and Jeff Frey took first and also had the 14.26-pound big fish of the tournament.  Second place weight dropped to 21.41 pounds for Kyle and Anthony Rasmussen.  Ryan Voorhees/Anthony Pimentel were third, Mike Sanders/Matt Lindsey took fourth, Brian and Jeremiah Payne placed fifth, and Al Karam/Jimmie Harrell, sixth.  Look for bass in areas with structures such as fall-down wood in fairly shallow water (5-20 feet)- bass like to build their nests nest to structure, as well as the deeper water adjacent to those areas.  Throw reaction baits such as white or white/chartreuse spinnerbaits, small rainbow trout swimbaits, as well as jigs, Baby Brushhogs, Senkos and 6″ worms.  Remember to practice catch and release, especially now, when bass are spawning.
