Lake Wappapello Fishing Report
Date: 2-19-18
Air Temp: 68 degrees, light showers
Water Temp: 46-48
With Lake Wappapello drawn down to winter pool, navigation in a bass boat can be quite sketchy, for this reason we ventured out in my partners jet drive John Boat. While not as fast or comfortable as a bass boat it get the job done for some early season bass fishing.
With ice only being off the lake for a few weeks we were pleasantly surprised by water temps in the upper 40’s. We started off Fishing the stump lined river channel and was rewarded with a several Largemouth on Canopy Grenade Jigs.
Moving up river to a bluff wall called Panthers Den we once again found success on the Canopy Grenades Jig as well as crankbaits and The Norris Custom Hair Jig.
The fish at Panthers Den weren’t as big as the river channel fish but were hungry and biting, which was welcomed after the freezing temperatures of the last few months.
We fished the stump lined river channel from Sulfur Springs up to the Greenville Bridge.
Picking off random fish on the Jigs, crankbaits and another good one on a spinnerbait. As we got farther up river the Smallmouth became more dominant.
For just a few weeks after ice out, the fish were in a cooperative mood, hitting a variety of Baits, we caught around 20 fish with a best 5 of fifteen to sixteen pounds.
