New Melones Fishing Report by Christian Ostrander

August 3, 2020 by Randy Walker

Was able to get out on Melones earlier this week. We started out throwing deep crankbaits and a variety of topwater baits on main lake points and humps. In the first hour of doing this we could only manage a bunch of 2lb fish. So I ran to the back of a creek finding lots of bait fish and bass in them as well. We threw everything at them but only could pick up a few jig fish up to 3lbs. The bite got tougher as the sun came up so we moved out of the creek and headed towards the river. I idled over a rock pile and saw the fish stacked. Nail weighted senkos and other finesse bait were producing fish for us but no size. I picked up a deep crank fired past the rock pile and caught a 5 pounder. We continued to catch nice fish on rock piles throughout the lake on strike king 8xd crankbaits in chartreuse and shad patterns. I have some days free the next couple weeks hit me up for a trip!

If I don’t answer please leave me a voicemail.
