On the water seminar at Folsom Lake

March 28, 2012 by Ron Howe

On-the-water Pre-fish support comes back to Folsom Lake!

Folsom Lake is one of the most fertile lakes in northern California, and those anglers that frequent its many coves and rocky points know that it is loaded with quality largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass. And with two major feeder arms delivering a steady feed of fresh water from the nearby sierras, it can be one of the most exciting lakes the Thunder Valley Outdoors Future Pro Tour will visit in 2012.

But in reality, the facts show that many of the participants in this year’s tour are brand new to the sport of bass fishing, and many know absolutely nothing about this immensely popular Sacramento area lake. And when the FPT’s big event – the “Capitol City Showdown” rolls around on April 21st, FPT competitors none too familiar with Folsom Lake, will have a gigantic mountain to climb and be at a distinct disadvantage against those who call Folsom Lake their home waters.

To this end, the Thunder Valley Future Pro Tour will endeavor to help bring many of its anglers into the “information loop” and provide for anyone that desires, the opportunity to learn a little bit about the lake and will host its popular “On the Water” pre-fish seminar series on Friday, April 20th at Folsom Lake the afternoon before the event.

This “On the Water” pre-fishing seminar is unique in that it will feature some of the best pro anglers that fish Folsom Lake on a regular basis to actually be on the water, posted at different areas of the lake, where ANYONE that desires can pull up next to them and receive one-on-one, on-the-water advice on how to fish that particular area of the lake.

A few years ago at our “On the Water” seminar, pro angler Andy Sayles, assigned to the mid peninsula area of the lake, was instructing a group of anglers on how to fish Senko baits in submerged trees. In mid sentence, as he tossed his bait into a cluster of submerged willows trees, he felt a “tap”, and set the hook on – and landed, a bass that weighed 10 pounds!

The “On the Water” prefish seminar period  will take place on Friday, April 20th, from 10am to 1:30pm, and ANYONE can participate- even if you do not fish FPT events. Keep up with the FPT website as we will soon post the official map/legend that will list where each pro will be stationed at on that Friday.

So if you plan to come up and pre-fishing for this event on Friday…you now have no excuse for not knowing something about one of the most productive lakes in northern California. MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME and EFFORTS, and plan to take advantage of this seminar and what the pros know about Folsom Lake!

We look forward to seeing you at the seminar and at the “Capitol City Showdown” event on Folsom Lake April 21st!

See you there!
