Salt Springs fishing report

May 17, 2012 by Ron Howe

Recently I had a chance to head out to salts springs reservoir in the hills outside of copperopolis. For being a little lake this place is packed with better than average fish. Not having been here before we started the day off throwing d&m spinner baits and T&T chatterbaits near the dam. We caught a few in the three pound range. This lake is very shallow with loads of weeds. I found some matted vegetation and started flipping berkley havoc pit boss baits and my buddy was flipping weightless senkos. That was the best pattern of the day for fish up to 6lbs. Every mat we came to had a fish on it. In between flipping I messed around with frogs, wake baits, crankbaits and spooks. It didn’t seem to matter what you threw as most of the baits were good for a fish or two. This is a great springtime lake as there seems to be little boat traffic. We finished off the day with just over 20 pounds with the best fish being 6 pounds. If you are looking for a lake off the beaten path salt springs is the place to go. All baits used can be purchased from monster fishing tackle. Just click the link on the right from the rbbassfishing.net home page. Set The Hook!
