Get out those flippin sticks and bed baits
Rumor has it the bass in so cal are looking for real estate, many sightings of fish cruising the shallows in packs looking for a place to spawn. I got four reports this week of fish cruising the banks in the lower elevation lakes. Gonna be an early spawn here it looks like. The fish are following jerk baits but not eating them, they can be caught with slow presentations IE dropshot or slow rolled spinnerbaits. The cloud cover from the last storm combined with a couple of warm days in between have the water temp climbing.
I am preparing for 40 fish days. Getting the salt and pepper tube with the tail dipped in chartreuse or a sweet beaver on a jighead for those bedding bass. I have a buddy taking out a bunch of big wigs from some major fishing companies out on Diamond Valley this week and he will let me know how it goes.
The weather hasn’t been too great in my neck of the woods keeping me from the mountain lake I call my home water (Silverwood). Wind and snow and hail not a good combination. These upper elevation lakes will turn on about April and give us six weeks of fantastic fishing after the other lakes have spawned out.
The big news this week was at Lake Perris in Moreno Valley with an ABA tournament posting 42.3 lbs for five fish. Not unusual to catch an eight pound fish at Perris but 5 of them? Wow what a bag. That’s delta weight or El Salto. Congrats to Pat Kineiry and Robert Dickson, for doing a fantastic job. Don’t they wish they had those weights at the classic? Way to go guys.
Ok that’s it for now but stay tuned for the guide trip results this week from Art Hill of Diamond Valley Guide Service.
