It was once again time to give back to the sport of bass fishing by attending the 2011 Pro Teen Classic out of Russo’s Marina. This was my 3rd Pro Teen Classic and was excited for what the weekend had in store for me and the young man I drew by the name of Nicholas Trinh. We walked and chatted for a while after getting paired up and the first thing I was able to do was present Nic with a huge bag of tackle that was provided by RBBassfishing.net and our sponsors. This bag was filled with all kinds of cool baits and as Nic was looking into the bag, he was pretty excited to see what I gave him.
We started off talking about what techniques Nic felt comfortable with doing, his reply to me was whatever we need to do, he had a rod for it and was ready…and I have to say, he telling the truth. We started off throwing frogs and I knew right away that Nic was a young but experienced angler. He was able to put that frog where he wanted it and even more impressive was he was able to walk the frog better than some of my friends that have been fishing for years, which of course I had to tell them about…LOL. Within the first 25 yards of bank, Nic had his first blow up and the morning appeared to be starting off in a really great way. Well, the fish jumped a couple times and ended up coming off, Nic’s response, that’s frog fishing!
We ended up moving around the delta pretty much junk fishing for the fish that we did end up weighing in. Overall, I had a fun day and I think Nic agreed that it was fun just to be out there participating in the event. A couple weeks later Nic sent me a text asking about some of the area’s we fished because he was making a trip back down to the Delta and really did not know his way around, so of course I helped a nice up and coming young angler. I can’t wait until next year and being part of taking another young angler out on the water for this fantastic event!
I was also able to obtain two certificates for any battey of choice from one of my sponsors, Optima Batteries. The idea was to raffle the certificates off to a lucky boater that volunteered their day, boat and self to this awesome annual event…basically a Thank You for being there for the kids. The winner of the certificates was local Pro Billy Hines. This was only fitting since Billy ended up being one of two Pro’s that took out 2 kids on his boat to ensure that one was not left behind on the dock for this event. I happen to know Billy from years ago before we both got into bass fishing and know that he is a real stand up guy, so I was especially pleased to be able to present the certificates to Billy. I also want to thank him and each and every other person that was involved in any capacity of this event.
See you next year ~ Randy Walker
