This last Saturday, a good friend of mine, Randy Walker, who most of you know from RB Bass, invited me to fish with him on the North Delta. I usually don’t fish the North Delta, as I never do any good up there, but hey, it’s fishing with a friend. I have some medical issues, but I’m going fishing. Caught my right index finger in the bite of my log splitters retractable tongue feet, and it’s the size of a hot dog lol, casting and setting is going to be tough .
We launched at New Hope. I haven’t been there in years, and it was nice to see they improved it.
We headed North up to the old Meadows Marina area, not there anymore. It’s big fish water, but we aren’t getting bit, so we moved up to the Twin Cities bridge, throwing frogs, punching mats, We also chatter-baited the outside edge. The tide is falling and soon to be dead tide. The water is really stained, which I prefer, but only one little sip on a frog and no fish.
We moved farther up, stopping and fishing along the way, mixing up baits and techniques but nothing.
In one spot, we found some cheese, and I had one blow up on a frog. He came at it so hard, his wake launched the frog in the air and landed 3 feet away. I don’t know how big, but I’m guessing a 4 lber. I was disappointed.
We moved on fishing on and off, switching up punching, chatterbaits, spooks, swim jigs, frogs, and senkos! It was a grind even after the tide switch. The 93-degree heat and no breeze made the grind harder.
We went farther North. I’ve never been past the Twin Cities Bridge much but after we got back I looked it up on Google earth and we went past the Lambert Road Bridge and ended up near Stone Lake south of Hood Franklin Road. Dang boondocks in a boat. Randy got about 4 punch fish and me only one on a wacky senko before we called it quits. I was hoping the switch would have made the difference, but it didn’t. I did talk to one angler in the parking lot while retrieving the truck. He said it was slow to be they caught a 13.5 largemouth. We’ll I said it was big fish water, I’d of settled for any fish lol.
I’ve had and have some medical issues, but I’m hoping to get back on the water again this weekend.
Remember, it’s not always about tournaments, it’s supposed to be fun, so propagate the sport, and take a kid fishing!
