Fished Lake Berryessa today with my partner in a Angler’s Choice event. Found water temps from 58.2 to 65 degrees, with clear water. Started off graphing fish in the 35ft range but could only get small spots to bite. Moved around in depths and found fish up to 5ft deep by the end of the day. Fished points leading to spawning coves and coves themselves with dartheaded worms, tubes, drop shot, spoons, blades, rip baits, jigs and top water. All plastics were shad and green colors, which got all the fish for us. No action on anything else, but reports from other angler’s had fish coming on reaction along with an 8 lb hudd fish. It was a really soft bite and many short strikes and fish not holding onto the bait for long. We did find some bedding fish, but with the clear water we had to make long casts to them. Our best 5 fish only went 10.32 lbs, but it was a very nice day to be out on the water… and the big fish are getting ready to do their thing… some big fish should be coming out of Berryessa very soon.
Good Luck ~Randy Walker
