Pro’s looking forward to AC Oroville Western Pro-Am opener
The U.S. Angler’s Choice Northern Pro-Am season kicks off with the first event of the year slated for Lake Oroville this January 29-30th, 2011. At stake for participating Pro anglers this year is a better than 100% cash payback on the pro side including up to $45,000 in bonus cash that will be awarded during the final event of the season.
“Oroville is an excellent venue for this time of year”, noted Bill Cook, USAC Pro-AM tournament director. “Not only is the lake on the rise after the recent spat of rains, but the spotted bass bite is off the hook with most tournament boats catching from 20-30 per day”. Last year, Chris Zaldain managed to best 91 other Pro anglers with a two day limit totaling 27.09 pounds to earn $10,453 in CASH!!! Who will be crowned the champion this year remains to be seen.
Angler’s Choice Pro-am events use a shared weight formula in which each day’s Pro and Am angler effectively fish as a team to catch their best five fish limit. The Pro and Am angler “Share” the total weight, which carries over to the next day of fishing. Pro and Am anglers are paired up with different partners for the second and any subsequent days of fishing.
The USAC Pro-Am events offer a 1-5 payback and base a full field on 100 boats. Anglers will accrue points during the course of the season that will be used to qualify them for the year end fish-off at Clear Lake on June 11-12th, 2011.
The 2011 USAC Lake Oroville event is sponsored by the Oroville Chamber of Commerce. America’s Best Value Inn (530) 533-7070 is the tournament headquarters location. USAC anglers can book their rooms starting at $65 per night by mentioning the USAC Oroville event. Full details and information on the event can be found at this web link:

Entry fee for the 2011 USAC Pro-Am events is $500 for Pro anglers and $250 for Am anglers. Pro and Am anglers who sign up together are given a guaranteed entry status. All other entries will be taken on a first come, first serve basis with Am anglers paired up with Pro anglers accordingly.
All Options at Angler’s Choice Pro-Am events are paid back 100% and both the Pro and Am anglers have their own separate option pools. Options for the 2011 season will include a $50 Big Bass option that will pay out to the top two largest bass of each day. There is also a $50 Top 5 option that pays out to the top 5 Pro and top 5 Am anglers entered into this option pool at the end of the tournament.
Anglers who participate in the 2011 Oroville Pro-Am will also be eligible to receive Dobyn’s Rods for free under a special program with USAC. The program is a buy-one, get-one free program that has service like no other. Fishermen signing up for any one of the remaining five Anglers Choice Western Division Pro Am events can email Dobyns Rods dobynsrod@comcast.net and place their order. A company representative will confirm with the angler prior to the tournament and get it set up. Order the first rod at regular price and you will receive the second rod (of equal or lesser value) for free. Best of all, you will be able to pick up your rod from either Gary or Richard Dobyns during the partner pairing meeting of the Angler’s Choice Pro-am event that you are attending. This promotion is limited to one set (2) rods per angler.
“I have always been a fan of the shared weight concept”, noted Dobyns, the winner of over 100 major tournaments including 2009’s Lake Mead U.S. Open. “Angler’s Choice has the best programs on the West Coast and this is just a small way that I can help bring new anglers into the sport” Gary stated. “By offering these technologically advanced rods to fishermen at a healthy discount, I hope that I will be putting the tools in the hands of these guys to help make them more successful fishermen”.
