Took a buddy out for his first ever frog fishing day. Fished the North Delta in search of fish willing to eat the frog. Started off in the morning throwing a black bleeding series Snag Proof frog on mats and open water. About 30 minutes into the morning I had a 2 lber in the boat. We went hours before we could get another fish into committing to the frog, a small 10 inch fish.. continued switching up frog colors between white and black. Targeting shade pockets in the afternoon with open water along with mats. I knew that the area we were fishing was not going to pick up action until late in the day due to the tide and water movement. The last hour of the day we had a number of blow ups, suck downs, rolls, tail slaps… you name it, we got it… but only a couple fish would allow us to hook up. Found that we got more action moving the frog as fast as you can and then stopping.. the fish would go nuts for it… but still not choke it! It was a very tough day overall for frog fishing, but it was what I decided to do all day while taking a buddy out for his first ever frog trip. It finally paid off when he was able to get his first blow up, hook up and boating of a fihs.. small, but first frog fish… he was pretty excited! Water temp was 72-75 and we had both stained and clear water.
