David Gretler and I fished the Camp Far West tournament. The morning water temp. was 61 at the ramp. We went north up the arm and started fishing topwater lures. I fished a River 2 Sea Whopper Plopper and David went with a spook. We had a lot of fish swipe at the baits (dinks…) but no takers. As the sun started to hit the water I switched to a Lucky Craft Pointer and David went to a Keitech swimbait. David hooked up a nice fish off the edge of some trees but it shook loose before we got a chance to see it. We continued to fish with the same baits, jumping in and out of coves and out to points trying to hook a big fish. No takers. Since the reaction bite was a bust for us , we switched to the bottom. He tossed a jig with plastic trailer and I went with a football head jig loaded with a Yamamoto spider grub. We caught dink after dink. Just couldn’t find good fish. After exhausting all the areas I could think of to fish in the north arm we went up the river arm. Tried all the same lures (Top, middle, bottom) but no good fish. Moved out to the main body and started burning banks looking for some quality fish. No luck. Ended the day with four 13in. fish. Not our day! Three of the keepers came on a Berkley Gulp minnow on a jig head and one on a dropshot. The water visibility was clear down to 5 ft. plus and the temps reached 69/70 by late afternoon. Didn’t see a single bed or bedding fish. As always, thanks for checking back with RBBass and hope your trip out there is more successful than mine! Tight lines and a full livewell, Bob Pietruszka
