Product Review: Canopy Grenades Jigs
One of the first things to know about Canopy Grenades is that they are made in Northern California and if your anything like me, buying American made products is always a plus.
Canopy Grenades makes Football Head, Flipping and Swim Jigs as well as Punch Skirts. Over the course of the year I have had the opportunity to use all their products and one thing that really stands out is the attention to detail. All skirts are wire tied with hand painted heads and I’ve yet to find one that I have had to punch out paint from the line tie. Just the fact that you don’t have to clean the line tie and correct the skirt adds numerous cast to your fishing day.
They offer a vast variety of colors and come in 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 oz. jigs sizes. I’ve been pairing them with either a Sweet Beaver or a Missile Baits D Bomb. On recent trips to Lake Wappapello, Missouri I had an opportunity to show a relatively new angler how to jig fish. He tied on a 1/2 oz. football head and I tipped it with a black/red flake D Bomb. After a short demo on working a jig he was catching keeper size Largemouth Bass. He hadn’t got the idea of bone crushing hook sets down but the Mustad Ultra Point hooks never came unbuttoned.
A lot of fisherman think a jig is a jig, and they are mostly correct. Quality components, sharp hooks, wire tied skirts, clean line ties and attention to detail put this small NorCal company near the top of the jig market. A definite recommendation from this angler.
