Lake McClure fishing report for the month of January.
Water temp holding around 57 degrees. The bite seems to be changing each day. On sunny days with a light breeze reaction baits such as the Ima Pinjack and 3.8” keitech fat swing impact on a 1/4oz heads have been working well. Target big shallow flats up in the river for the best action. With foggy and rainy days the reaction bite seems to shut down and the better bites have been coming on steeper rock walls. Dragging a brown or green pumpkin jig with a Berkley Havoc “The Deuce” twin tail trailer or a Frenzy Nail shakey head rigged with a 6 inch Havoc bottom hopper have seemed to produce the better sized fish for us.
Bait balls have been hard to find but if you find ones with fish on them dropping a spoon or drop shot Yamamoto Shad shaped worm have been getting decent bites. For us it seems like once you find a couple fish stay and work the area over well and you are bound to find more. With this ever changing weather don’t leave home without rain gear and hand warmers just so you don’t end up miserable.
And as always…SET THE HOOK!
