I was able to put some time in the last two weeks on the delta. I burned a lot of gas and fished all over. I’ve been averaging 18-22 lbs as well as 30+ fish days. The mornings have been slow as the fish haven’t been aggressive. I’ve been starting out with slow baits like senkos and drop shots, then once the morning goes on I’ll start punching and throwing topwater around.
Lately for me the punch bite has been extremely good as I’m punching 20+ fish a day, including at least a 5 pounder or two. I was able to get a 9.98 punching thick grass during one of the trips a week ago. I’ve messed around with all colors and one day they will like more of a green pumpkin color and other days they will eat the darker black and blue colors better. A 1.5 oz weight has been ideal for all vegetation and I don’t see a reason to go with a lighter weight as the fish haven’t really seemed to care. Right outside the current is where my better fish have been coming for all techniques. Most of the Delta is fairly clear and finding those areas that haven’t been sprayed yet is key.
I have some days free the next couple weeks hit me up for a trip guiding on Delta and Mother Lode lakes.
