Lake New Melones is fishing pretty good around the board. Fish are in all water columns you can catch them shallow as well as 60+ ft. Every trip out has been 30+ fish days throwing a assortment of baits.
Jigs and small swimbaits like a 3.8 Keitech on a ball head fishing it on the bottom has been producing the better fish for me. Basically anything finesse will get you bit right now but what I’ve been playing around with the most finesse wise is a ned rig and a drop shot. Ned rig I’m going to a 1/5 oz head and using both Shad and craw colored baits which they will both work. Drop shot I’ve been using a prism shad 6 inch robo worm with a 1/4 oz weight.
Long points and humps have been producing I haven’t found a reason to leave the main lake. Spotted bass have been grouped up heavy so cast or drop back down right after you catch one and you most likely will get bit again. I have not put in time with the swimbait lately but tossed it around and seen a few decent followers.
Bite has also been good for me on Don Pedro call or text me to book a trip! I have this weekend free and a few days next week.
