Had our fourth tournament of the season and was not looking forward to it. Personally don’t have much luck or experience on Lake Comanche.
We blasted off just after safe light at about 6:50. My partner and I decided to go out on the main lake and find submerged island and main channel ledges. Stuck with targeting the 35-45 foot range and started marking fish fast. I elected to start throwing an A-rig with two 3/8oz and one 1/4oz Dobyns heads matched up with Keitech fat swing impact in the 3.8” length and electric shad color. Being thrown on my Dobyns fury 795sb.
Took some time and casting to finally find a retrieve speed that they liked. Got a bite on an island top in 40’ of water and missed him. Got back out in the same spot as fast as I could and was rewarded with our only fish of the day. A 2.5lb large mouth. Casted around in the same area hoping we had fired up the school and was bit again and broke off on hook set! Be sure to check your line and knots after catching a fish or making a bunch of casts.
Decided to make a change for the afternoon after not being able to produce more bites. And ran up the river arm where we ran into Josh Brown and his partner. Talking with them for a minute as they had figured the fish out and had a limit. We fished around some points in the river arm with no luck and then headed back for weigh in.
We were no where in the check range but had a good day figuring out the lake more and more each trip out. 12.88 won the day and was pretty close down to fifth with 11.26 for the last check.
Tight lines and have fun!
