We launched out of Clearlake’s oaks this morning at 6 am. We started on the Clearlake Oaks arm working reaction baits and the wife was throwing a drop shot. No bites in 30 minutes then moved to the red bud arm. I started off working a jerk bait with no bites. Switched to a 5 inch black senko and immediately landed a 2 1/2 lb largemouth. We switched to the drop shot and they began chewing. We caught half dozen then moved to our next spot. Again I tried fast moving reaction baits and nothing by 10:30 am. I went back to the drop shot and they came alive again. This patterned remained most of the day until about 1:30 pm. I started paralleling the rock shoreline with the jerk bait and Hallelujah back-to-back 3 pounders. The patterned today was rubber presentation. We caught probably 25 bass in the 2 to 3 pound range. I believe if we stayed into the 4-5 pm time slot the reaction bite would have kicked in. All I can say is I was very happy to figure out the jerk bait bite pattern in the afternoon. Hope this information helps you on your next trip out.
