BETHEL ISLAND, Ca – “Crunch Time” is officially here, and you can best believe that Future Pro Tour anglers are preparing in earnest for the final event of the FPT’s “Delta Swing” series of events, which also happens to be the second to last event of the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour’s 2011 season, to be held on the California Delta, Saturday, September 17th at Russo’s Marina.
And it is a good bet that those teams with even the slightest hopes of making it to the 2011 Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour Classic championship, which will commence in less than 9 weeks, are fully aware that now is not the time to employ a conservative approach if they wish to make it to the “big show”.
“We have to let it all go for this event”, noted an anxious Travis and Spencer Moran, co-owners of BassHookUps.com who currently sit just outside of the Classic qualifying bubble. The year has been up and down for us and we know we are better anglers than our current score reflects. We consider both Folsom and the California Delta home waters, so it would be devastating for us not to make it to the FPT Classic – given the split-venue format of Folsom on day one, and the California Delta on day two”.
Tough competitors Jack Preston and “Fast Freddie” Fullerton are also concerned as they too, hang dangerously close to the non-qualifying edge of the FPT Classic bubble, and understand full well what they have to do to secure a qualifying berth in the championship event. “Jack and I know we can fish better than we have been and will fish very aggressive for this event”, noted Fullerton in confident tones. “We feel that we can definitely go out and get a top ten in this event, which will help our cause”.
Timing and Focus
And as warm but stable conditions are forecast for the upcoming event, most members of the Future Pro Tour’s pro-support staff such as Ranger pro Bobby Barrack concur with anglers on the bubble adapting a more aggressive fishing strategy. “Go for the big bites early, and try to get the big fish – those that feed primarily in the early morning hours, try to get them to take your top water offerings before sun is fully up as you will need some good “anchor” fish to bring a decent limit to the scales. Remember that this is the “transitional” time of the year for delta bass, so timing and focus is critical”.
Competitors vying for one of the 50 coveted berths available in the 2011 Thunder Valley Outdoors/FPT Classic Championship have every reason to be concerned with their qualifying positions, as winners of the prestigious FPT Classic title will not only receive the recognition of being the best amateur team in the west, but will also receive custom made lead crystal cups, custom championship rings, and keys to a fully-rigged Ranger/Evinrude/Minn Kota-Humminbird package valued at over $35,000!
“End of Summer Expo – Angler Expo” Event
But Future Pro Tour anglers are never left without a way to receive the help they need in their quests to become true students of the game. And to that end, the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour will host a “End of Summer- Angler Expo”, Thursday, Sept 15th at Thunder Valley Casino from 6-9pm, giving not only FPT anglers a chance to prepare for the event but also all anglers – that fish for all species, a chance to learn something about the late summer/early fall transitional period on the California delta.
