A buddy and I fished Randy Pringle’s new circuit, the BBT (Best Bass Tournament) season opener for the Northern Region at Lake Berryessa. The morning started off with very chilly air temps and 74 teams sitting in wait to start off the 2012 season. Water temps started off at 51.2 at our first location in the main body with perfect morning conditions, very little to no wind/breeze allowed us to fish our area at many different angles. We put two fish in the boat in the first hour, one spot and one nice smallie. We continued to move around the area and had a few more hook ups but were not able to capitalize on the bites and get the fish in the boat. We decided to let the area calm down and reload so we moved up to a North West bank for an hour or so and then back to our starting location. The bite for us all day long was slow going until we returned…and proceeded to boat 3 fish in about 5 minutes… a nice spot and two more nice smallies. We ended the day with a hard earned 13.14lbs for around 15th place. We threw spider jigs, dart heads, drop shots and Buckeye Spot Remover shaky heads fished on Abu Garcia VERITAS rods, Abu reels and Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon line. All plastics were green and/or brown colors. All which can be found at Monster fishing tackle.com (outdoorproshop), so check them out for all of your fishing needs.
The event was run extremely well which was to be expected as Randy and the staff do an excellent job… well done!
Good Luck,
Randy Walker
