My buddy and I fished the Delta on Friday and found a bunch of fish, although most were in the 1.5 pound range, it made for a fun day. We stared out throwing top water in the form of buzz baits and spooks. We had a few blow ups and take downs on the buzz bait but the fish were either jumping over it or were smacking at it… missed every one of them including a big fish, even with a trailer hook added. The bait of choice was the Persuader Clacker buzz bait due to the rough water conditions from the high winds. We then moved to throwing blades and chatter baits in the same area with scattered weed clumps on a rock wall. Water temps around 70-72 and from clear to dirty as we fished in several areas from main current to back water pockets. We continued with reaction for a couple hours with catching only small fish. Once low tide hit, we started focusing on the outside of week lines and also inside week clumps. The key for us was to find the healthiest weeds we could find that had a nice ledge nearby. We mixed up our presentations between plastics with a paychecks punch skirt and without. Action came on chigger craws, beavers, and creature baits.
Watch out for all of the summer traffic… be safe and good luck fishing.
