Headed out to Folsom Lake on Saturday for a few hours of fishing. Got one the water at about 8am and headed up North to see what I can find. Water temps ranged from 60.2 to 62.7 with 90% of the fish caught coming from the warmer area’s. We fished depths from surface down to about 35ft with most of our success coming in the 18-23ft range which just happened to be the same depth as the bait I was marking. We caught about 10-12 fish for the day on jigs, dart heads and stand up shaky heads. We ended up having a couple fish chase our baits up to the surface while reeling in so we decided to see if anything would go after some topwater but could not get anything to come up. I started throwing the IMA Beast Hunter deep diving crank bait in the silver lining color and ended up fooling one spot after banging off a rock pile in about 10ft of water. We moved around looking for more bait and picked up at least one fish at each place we found bait.
Our best bites/fish came fishing a 1/2 ounce Brown Persuader casting jig with a Cinnamon Purple twin tail grub. We tipped dart heads and stand up heads with shad colored Robo worms in both 4 and 6 inch versions. Most bites came dead sticking or working really slow except the crank fish.
The lake levels are really low right now and the lake is getting more and more dangerous to navigate if you don’t know the area’s, which is why I believe the lake is going to the 5 MPH limit starting this Thursday so be aware of lake limits if going out after that.
Good Luck ~
