My buddy and I headed out to Berryessa yesterday for a day of fishing. The water temp was 51.9 when we got to Markley Cove and by days end we found 55.3 temps. We headed up North to check out the two main creeks and found several boats up there fishing out of what was to end up being aboutĀ 17 mph winds. I specifically went up there to graph some stuff with the structure scan and get an idea of what was going on right now. We ended up only fishing for about 30 minutes before I decided to hit a few places on the North part of the main body. With the winds picking up we decided to head back to the narrows for a little break from the wind and started checking points and coves. Before too long we started graphing a bunch of fish in 22-33ft so we started dragging jigs in browns & greens along with drop shotting a 4″ Aaron’s Majic robo worm. We jumped around to a few more area’s looking for staging area’s and picked up a few nice fish for our efforts.
With the winds we threw several reaction baits throughout the day fromĀ that ranged from Persuader spinnerbaits, IMA Pinjack crankbaits, IMA Flit rip baits and custom chatterbaits. Really all of our better fish happen to come later in the day fishing jigs and the drop shot.
We hit the cycle and caught smallies, large mouth and spots including a 4.20 fat girl that was photo’d and released back to do her thing.
With future forecasted warmer weather conditions coming things should start getting real fun out there… get out and get you some Berryessa beauties… but please continue to practice good fish handling practices especially with the spawn coming soon ~ Good Luck
