LAKEPORT, Ca. – May is always a special time for FPT anglers – especially when it includes a stop at what many consider to be the best BIG BASS lake in the country.
And this Saturday at Clear Lake, an event dubbed “The BIG BASS Brawl”, will represent the third stop for anglers fishing the 2014 Coors Light Future Pro Tour Series, bringing with it all of the ingredients necessary to be the most exciting event of the season.
The facts:
– The field will see over 100 teams participating
– In last year’s event, held on virtually the same weekend, it took 18 pounds – just to get in the TOP 70, and 22 pounds – just to get into the TOP 30
– The temps leading up to this event are forecast to be in the high 80’s and low 90’s, which should foster a bite that could shatter previous records
Saturday’s event is extremely crucial and may decide the fate of many teams hoping to qualify for one of the exclusive berths available in the prestigous 2014/15Future Pro Tour Classic Championship – which will be held in March of 2015 (on Clear Lake), adding even more pressure for anglers deciding which strategy will be most effective.
For Clear Lake is known to have HUGE fish that will get on spawning beds well into late June, so the challenge for FPT anglers will be whether to play it safe and go for a “good limit” – which will help them secure “good points” and a possible berth in the FPT’s year-end championship, OR go “all in” and stalk the big bass that may still be on beds spawning in the various coves and tulle lined banks of California’s largest natural lake.
We will soon find out as this Saturday’s event will launch at safe-light out of Library Park in Lakeport, followed by a dramatic weigh-in that begins promptly at 3pm.
There will be an OPTIONAL pre-registration on Friday evening at the official host hotel Robinson Rancheria Casino Resort in Nice, from 4 to 6pm, where you can get tips from top Clear Lake pros on how to fish Clear Lake in the late spring.
ALSO…..after the registration don’t forget… beginning at 5pm, Robinsion Rancheria will be serving their famous delicious Prime Rib dinner for only $9.99!
And for those that can’t make it up on Friday evening, we will be taking late signups for this event at the Library Park ramp – the morning of the event, beginning at 4am, where limited memberships will be available for those that can only fish a few FPT events or simply wish to try us out.
Future Pro anglers… get your boats ready…and have your heavy duty Gamakatsu hooks ready to go as the FPT presents the “BIG BASS BRAWL” this Saturday, May 17th on Clear Lake!
See you there!
