On March 1, 2019 my son Vincent and I decided to try our luck bass fishing the California Delta. We launched our boat at approximately 7:00 A.M., from Whiskey Slough Marina located at 3401 S. Whiskey Slough Road, Holt, California.
Upon launching I noticed the tide was incoming and after short research I discovered it would reach its peak around 11:30 A.M. The water clarity was poor in the back of Whiskey and the water temperature was only 51 degrees.
After a fifteen minute boat ride West we pulled up on a popular stretch of water which acts as a transition point for bass looking to feed. We were greeted by two adult sea lions feeding heavily on large bass. Vincent and I watched the show for a while before running North to another popular community hole.
We began flipping jigs and creature baits into approximately five feet of water. We caught two small fish, as we continued down the bank where we located emergent and submerged vegetation. Flooded timber lined the fringe of the pond and vines were present on the interior.
The tide reached its peak and began to flow out. We started concentrating on hard cover and flipping directly toward those areas. That adjustment was exactly what it took to start catching quality fish.
Overall it was an awesome day with my son, fishing the famed California Delta which we call our home water. If your interested in booking a guided fishing trip, feel free to email me at BigBassSniper85@gmail.com
