Tide: Outgoing
Headed out to the Delta today and was on the water at 7:30am. Launched out of Paradise Marina and headed to Mildred first thing. Lots of cheese mats but no fish action. Ended up fishing the outside levee banks in the same area and started picking up fish right away. Started with frogs but no takers, just a couple small swirls. Picked up a white blade and craw colored vibrating jig, changing up between the two depending on the weeds and wood. Caught several fish on both. Once I stopped getting bit on those, I picked up a flippn’ stick and started pitching to wood, rock and weed clumps. I was using a craw colored Havoc Pit Boss with a 3/8 ounce R2S tungsten weight. I was able to pick up a couple more fish with this rig after going back through the same area. I moved around making my way back towards the launch ramp. No frog or reaction fish the rest of the day, but the Pit Boss picked up more fish in a couple more areas. I flipped and pitched fast and if the fish were there, they bit. I did punch some mixed mats and cheese and got bites there as well.
I mixed up my targets as the tide changed and depending on what I had to fish at each stop, rotating through the 5 rods I had on the deck. Fish were sitting in or around cover from 2ft to 6ft deep. Got off the water at 2pm before the ramp got too crazy at the end of the day.
The gear and products used today were Abu Garcia rods/reels with 65lb Spiderwire and 17lb Berkley Trilene Big game. Persuader spinner baits, a homemade 3/8 vibrating jig with a 3″ Pit Boss trailer and Snag Proof frogs.
